This is Bindi, she is a 16 month old orphan kangaroo. Her mother was in an operation in which she did not survive, and now Bindi (meaning a small thorn in Australian!!) is being hand reared and lives in a pillowcase inside a bag, to replace the pouch she lived in when her mother was alive. Bindi is still bottle fed with some special diet of hay and pellets, and once she is more mobile on her feet she will be released with other kangaroos like her. The children really enjoyed their unusual visitor, they had the chance to feed and stroke the joey, and watch her stretch her legs. She stands about 2 1/2 ft tall and she is all legs!!
This was done with the thanks of Andrew and Kate who are currently caring for the welfare of Bindi.
